MANILA, Philippines – Viber is expanding its services temporarily to let “Filipino users” call their family and friends abroad in light of Typhoon Yolanda (international codename Haiyan).

Viber announced a temporary call service for the Philippines, “allowing Filipino users to call regular (non Viber) numbers outside of the Philippines for free.”

The company did not go into detail as to whether foreign numbers operating in the Philippines would be able to use the service.

Viber notes that the free service is not a final product, and that not all countries are supported by the offering. The quality users may get when calling may also vary.

To use the service, users may need to restart their phone for it to work. If you wish to call someone, go to a contact in Viber, then tap any of the numbers listed next to the words, “Viber Out.”
