Family receives remains of OFW found in Korea septic tank

MANILA, Philippines – The family of 34-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Angelo Claveria received his remains on Sunday morning, May 27, two years after he went missing and was later found dead in a septic tank in South Korea.

The remains of Claveria, a factory worker, “were discovered inside a septic tank of a paint factory in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, outside Seoul” in April this year, said the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in a statement Sunday.

Citing South Korean investigators, the DFA said Claveria “was believed to have been murdered by a Filipino co-worker who is now the object of a manhunt in the Philippines.” 

The 34-year-old OFW’s remains have been brought to his family in Cabatuan, Iloilo.

Claveria’s mother thanked the Philippine government “for repatriating the remains of her son and for providing burial assistance to the family,” the DFA said. 

Claveria was one of more than two million Filipinos seeking a better life abroad.  

The plight of OFWs has recently been a cause of concern, following high-profile cases such as the death of 26-year-old Joanna Demafelis, who was found dead in a freezer in Kuwait. – Rappler.com
