Women who #NeverFade: The modern Filipina
Today is International Women’s day, and we’re celebrating Filipinas who exemplify resilience, tenacity, and excellence

MANILA, Philippines — What do Pia Wurtzbach, Bianca Gonzales-Intal, and KC Concepcion have in common?

They’re all achievers: women of accomplishment, talent, and success. Pia Wurtzbach is Miss Universe 2015, Bianca Gonzalez-Intal is a UNICEF special ambassador, and KC Concepcion is an accomplished actress and National Ambassador Against Hunger for the United Nations’ World Food Programme.

But behind the glitz and glamor that surround them are stories of tenacity; of overcoming challenges, difficulties, and rejection that pave the road to success.

They’re all “#NeverFade Filipinas.” In the face of adversity, they persevere.

March 8 is International Women’s Day. It’s a fitting time to acknowledge women who strive to #NeverFade. Once upon a time, women were considered second class citizens. But because of outstanding, tenacious women who have made their marks on their respective industries, Filipinas now enjoy a greater sense of equality than before.

In a recent Facebook poll and Instagram post, we asked readers about the qualities that they think define a #NeverFade woman. Here’s what they said.

Humility: “I check what areas I can improve and re-invent myself” (50%)

A #NeverFade Filipina accepts that difficulties are all a part of life. No one is handed triumph on a silver platter! So rather than sulking or resigning, successful women accept the difficulties that come their way and bounce back.

That’s not to say they aren’t allowed to grieve or be frustrated. The #NeverFade woman never allows hard times to get the last laugh.

Resilience: “I reflect internally to find a long lasting motivation” (42%)

How badly do you want to achieve your dreams?

As a Binibining Pilipinas contestant, Pia Wurtzbach was criticized for trying over and over again, even when she already lost. In the face of all these accusations, she responded with grace and honesty.

People are saying na trying hard daw aka. Yeah, I try hard talaga. (People are saying that I’m trying hard. Yeah, I really try hard.) I try very hard. I try very hard because this is what I want,” she said after finally winning the title on her third attempt.

Resilience not just for resilience’s sake. The motivation to power through the tough times has to come inside you.

Influence: “I look to other confident women for inspiration” (8%)

And lastly, a #NeverFade woman is someone who supports other #NeverFade women as well.

Those who are just starting out on their journey look up to those who, in spite of the odds, have transcended stereotypes, overcome rejection, and made their mark on the world.

They inspire us to pursue our dreams and #NeverFade even in the face of adversity.

A celebration of women

For International Women’s Day, Downy is launching its new Parfum Collection behind its #NeverFade campaign, which honors the amazing work of the Philippine Commission on Women, and the #NeverFade Filipinas, Pia Wurtzbach, Bianca Gonzalez-Intal, and KC Concepcion.

These women will share their personal stories of failure and triumph, and pay tribute to the women who have inspired them to become the #NeverFade woman they are today.

Success is never easy. The most successful women are the ones who choose to #NeverFade in the face of change, challenge, or failure in the different stages of their lives. — Rappler.com
