The evolving spirit of Tanduay
Follow the story of a then-unknown Filipino distillery that evolved to become an internationally recognized brand

MANILA, Philippines – It all started with a partnership.

In 1854, businessmen Joaquin Elizalde and Joaquin Ynchausti established Ynchausti y Cia to merge their ventures. Eventually, they were joined by Valentin Teus. Together, the 3 entrepreneurs ran a distillery in Hagonoy, Bulacan which housed the production of Tanduay Rhum.

161 years later, under the Lucio Tan Group, Tanduay has become one of the best-selling rum brands in the world.

Over the years, Tanduay has received distinctions of excellence from several international organizations. This is reflected in their range of 17 products, from the classic Tanduay 5 Years Fine Dark Rhum, to the young and colorful Tanduay Cocktails, to the premium Tanduay Asian Rum.

Having produced a variety of premium spirits since its inception, it has also kept its spot as the number-one selling rum in the Philippines. To meet the high demand, the company uses 200,000 oak barrels in aging the popular drink.

Tanduay has gone a long way since its first bottles were produced. Through the years, it has captured the taste of hundreds of Filipinos. Follow its story from being a little known distillery to becoming the world-class company it is known today. – Rappler.com
