5 scenes from ‘The Force Awakens’ that deserve their own mini spin-off
LEGO and Sony Interactive Entertainment's latest game lets you play out the best scenes from the film

MANILA, Philippines – A long time ago (in 1977 to be exact) in a galaxy not too far away, Star Wars: A New Hope hit theaters worldwide. Since then, the sci-fi franchise has captured the imaginations of fans for generations.

The Star Wars saga tells a galactic story of good vs evil through exciting spaceship battles, kick-ass sword fights, and lovable characters who are as heroic as they are memorable.

In 2015, the series was introduced to a new generation with the release of The Force Awakens and its new group of young heroes. It was a treat for old fans too, as old heroes like Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Leia graced the screen once again. This time, the evil First Order fights for galactic supremacy over the New Republic and the Resistance army led by Leia.

When you’re having a blast while saving the galaxy, you never want things to end. So as enjoyable and thrilling as The Force Awakens was, there were a few epic scenes in the film that some viewers probably wish went on for just a bit longer. Here are a few:

Finn and Poe Dameron’s escape from the First Order

At the start of the film, the First Order captures ace Resistance pilot Poe Dameron. With the help of a rogue Stormtrooper, Poe steals a ship and narrowly escapes. He dubs the Stormtrooper as “Finn” and the two form a quick bond.

While this scene was exciting and was a great way to introduce some of the main characters, it would’ve been cool to see their escape go on a bit longer with a few more barrel rolls, laser battles, and funny dialogue between the charismatic Poe and the naïve but good-hearted Finn.

Once they crash land on the desert planet Jakku, Poe and Finn are separated. We’re led to believe that Poe didn’t survive the landing until we see him again later in the movie. Off-screen, Poe had escaped from the crashed ship, found another one, and made his way back across the galaxy.

Poe is the best pilot in the Resistance and perhaps in the entire galaxy. It would’ve made for an exciting mini-adventure to watch some more heroics from Poe in his quest for survival across the galaxy.

Han Solo and Chewbacca’s adventures after ‘Return of the Jedi’

When we last saw the former smugglers and Rebel Alliance heroes Han Solo and Chewbacca, they were celebrating the fall of the Empire. When we see them again in The Force Awakens, they had somehow lost their beloved Millennium Falcon and had returned to their smuggling ways before coming across our new heroes.

Han and Chewie are two of the most beloved characters in all of Star Wars. Old and new fans alike would enjoy learning about what this duo went through in the years after Return of the Jedi: How did they lose their beloved ship? Why did they decide to smuggle dangerous monsters? Does Han still have a bad feeling before every mishap?

The battle at Maz Kanata’s castle

After finding the Millennium Falcon and running into its previous owners Han and Chewbacca, Finn and Jakku scavenger Rey fly to the planet Takodana in search of clues to Luke Skywalker’s whereabouts. There, they stay at a castle owned by the pirate Maz Kanata. It’s not long before the First Order, led by Kylo Ren, discovers their whereabouts.

This is the first time in the movie that we see our new heroes and villains go head to head. We also see the return of Poe Dameron at his high-flying best. This battle has everything from ships flying through the air, lasers firing on the ground, and new and old heroes fighting side-by-side.

The lightsaber fight on Starkiller Base

The lightsaber is the signature weapon of the Star Wars universe. It’s a metal hilt that shoots out a laser sword roughly a meter long. It’s used to cut through objects and deflect laser blasts, but what fans look forward to most is when a hero and a villain pull out their sabers and do battle. Every Star Wars film has featured at least one epic lightsaber clash.

The big duel in The Force Awakens takes place on Starkiller Base, the First Order’s planet-sized super weapon. As the Resistance’s ships attack the base, Kylo Ren and Rey duke it out on the snowed surface. Kylo dominates at first but Ren slowly discovers her Force powers and gets the better of him as the base is destroyed. It’s a gripping back-and-forth battle that will make you grimace at every slash and stab.

Fortunately, not only can you watch these scenes play out longer – you can also experience them for yourself. The videogame Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens was recently released for fans worldwide. The game includes the best scenes from the film, as well as new secret levels that expand on the story and characters.
