#WHIPIT: Women redefining home and business with everyday labels

MANILA, Philippines – A woman can wear many hats – mother, daughter, advisor, business owner – and it’s all in the matter of being able to balance it all.

Some women may choose to put up their own business and at the same time manage their own home, while others choose to work in the corporate world. With these choices, come the challenges – sometimes, from the people around them, from the industries they try to penetrate, other times, from within.

A woman might be told that she won’t succeed in a particular business, or she’s better off at home taking care of the kids, maybe focus on having a career in an office if she’s single, or that she should focus more on nurturing the family if she’s married.

It’s the 21st century and it may not be happening in your home, but these stereotypes and labels exist to this day.

Still, women beat the odds and try to find strength from within. Here are 12 women entrepreneurs, most of them starting in their own home. They have different reasons for venturing into their respective businesses, but one holds true: women can do anything – and will do anything – for their families, and for their own self-growth.
