MANILA, Philippines – Whiz kids from the Philippines continued their winning streak by bagging medals and awards in two international math contests in China, and placed first runner-up overall in one of the competitions. 

In the 12th China Southeast Mathematical Olympiad (CSMO) held in Fujian, China, the Philippine team won two gold, one silver and two bronze medals, and two merit awards.

Filipino students were overall first runner-up and bagged 23 individual medals in the 2015 China International Mathematics Competition (CIMC) held in Changchun City in Jilin, China.

The 32-member delegation also took home 3 champion titles, 4 first runner-up and 9 second runner-up trophies in the team and group contests, and 6 merit awards.

“Our students have shown again their excellence in math in the two contests. We are very proud that they have brought home honor to the country,” said Dr Simon Chua, president of the Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines (MTG).

Rich medal haul

At the 12th China Southeast Mathematical Olympiad (CSMO) the gold medalists are Shaquille Wyan Que (Grace Christian College) and Albert John Patupat (Holy Rosary College).

Clyde Wesley Ang (Chiang Kai Shek College) won the silver medal, while the bronze medalists are Adam Christopher Chan (Grace Christian College) and Luke Matthews Bernardo (Philadelphia High School).

The merit awardees are John Aries Ceazar Hingan (San Beda College-Alabang), and Xuanye Li (Xavier School).
