Call for entries: Pinoy Ultimate Jeepney Challenge 2015
Student artists and designers can win up to P300,000

MANILA, Philippines – Resorts World Manila (RWM) is inviting young artists to send in their entries for the 2015 Pinoy Ultimate Jeepney (PUJ) Design Challenge.

Continuing its advocacy to “Champion the Filipino,” promote local arts, and support the next generation of artists, RWM gears up for the 4th installment of this innovative competition that aims to restore the glory of the Philippine jeepney. This year RWM calls on college students from all over the country to participate and represent their respective schools.

“The PUJ Design Challenge is a success not just in the field of tourism, culture, and the arts, but also of Filipino heritage as well,” says RWM Director for Corporate Communications Owen Cammayo. “Together with different organizations, we are able to revive this true Filipino icon while adding value to the works of the artists involved, as well as helping improve the livelihood of the drivers and operators that benefit from these roving street artworks.”

With the theme “What Makes Pinoys Smile,” this year’s tilt aims to pay homage to Bacolod’s MassKara Festival by translating the fête’s vibrant colors and merry images into jeepney designs. The top 10 submissions will be turned into fully-functional jeepneys. The grand winner will receive P300,000 and the runner-up will take home P200,000.

The public can also have their say by voting for the 2015 PUJ People’s Choice Award. The entry that gets the most number of online and SMS votes will receive P100,000 in cash prizes.

RWM’s PUJ Design Challenge has produced 37 modified jeepneys since its initial run in 2012. Supported by various government organizations including the National Commission on Culture and the Arts, the Department of Tourism, the Metro Manila Development Authority , and now the Commission on Higher Education, the program is part of Resorts World Manila’s efforts to revive and celebrate the prominence of the iconic Philippine jeepney.

The initiative further boosts tourism, culture and arts in the country, while improving the livelihood of participating jeepney drivers and operators within the Pasay area. So far, the campaign has contributed a 70 percent increase in the daily profits of the PUJ beneficiaries such as the Villamor Air Base Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association, Inc. Aside from modifying the jeepney units, one of the project’s goals is for Pasay City jeepney drivers to become “Tourist Drivers” through comprehensive training programs.

Deadline for entries is on October 16, 2015. For more information, visit www.rwmanila.com or call the Tourist/Visitor Hotline at (02) 908-8833. – Rappler.com

Resorts World Manila continues its advocacy to ‘Champion the Filipino’ with the annual Pinoy Ultimate Jeepney, which has been recognized with the coveted Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards (AREA) 2014 Southeast Asia held in Singapore last June 2014. The program received the Social Empowerment Award from AREA, a program that recognizes and honors Asian businesses for championing sustainable and responsible entrepreneurship.
