Learn how to turn your passion into profit from Writer's Block Philippines and top creative entrepreneurs

MANILA, Philippines – Writer’s Block Philippines is hosting the 2nd Creative Entrepreneurship Summit on Saturday, March 5, from 1 to 5 pm at Commune Cafe, Poblacion, Makati.

The summit aims to help participants take the first leap in starting their own enterprise, based on any passion or skill.

Turning passion to profit

Running a creative enterprise can be taught. But to think like a creative entrepreneur, you need to learn how to create a balance between passion and profit from other creative entrepreneurs. Writers Ana P. Santos and Nikka Sarthou–Lainez, the brains behind Writer’s Block, know a thing or two about turning passion into a sustainable venture.

Santos left a comfortable banking position as assistant vice-president to pursue a career as a freelance journalist. Meanwhile, Sarthou-Lainez has maintained a career as a full-time freelance writer-editor for more than a decade.

“We were always being asked how to get started in writing and then always asked if it is possible to make a living from it,” says Santos, who is a two-time recipient of the Pulitzer Center’s grant on Crisis Reporting.

Answering that question was the reason behind forming Writer’s Block. Santos and Sarthou-Lainez began conducting writing workshops that would help aspiring writers jumpstart their freelance writing career.

Dozens of writing workshops and hundreds of participants later, they continue to do what they love and love what they do.

“Globally, creative industries are booming. To maximize this shift in the marketplace, we need to learn how to be creative entrepreneurs,” says Sarthou-Lainez, a former travel ambassador for Moleskine notebooks.

Writer’s Block believes that writing is both art and craft, both creative and methodical, a form of expression, and a discipline. Writing itself is only one aspect of “writing;” a culmination of other processes that make it easier for you to write your piece. So while school will teach you how to write, Writer’s Block will bring all these different processes together and teach you how to be an effective writer.

The entrance fee for the summit is P500 inclusive of coffee and snacks. For media inquiries, contact +639173979927 or email writersblock.ph@gmail.com. – Rappler.com
