#AdCampXVI: Bringing local brands to the global stage
Localize to globalize? Get insights at this year's Advertising Camp in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY, Philippines – To keep up with what’s new and trending in the advertising industry, the University of the Philippines (UP) Visayas is organizing the 16th Advertising Camp (AdCampXVI) from Friday to Sunday, April 8 to 10, at the Iloilo Grand Hotel.

The 3-day event will revolve around the theme “Rising through the Tides: Localize to Globalize.” It will focus on new innovations and time-tested product promotions strategies in marketing and advertising.

The AdCamp, now on its 16th year, is a traditional event organized by graduating Business Administration students of UP Visayas who are Marketing majors.

It was conceptualized as a learning event and designed to address the gap between theories discussed in the classroom and actual practices in the industry. The learning concept was developed by the late UP Visayas professor Joseph Edward Idemne and advertising professional Lloyd Tronco in 2000.

Both Idemne and Tronco envisioned the AdCamp as an event that would educate students about the latest developments in the dynamic fields of marketing and advertising.

For this year, the AdCamp recognizes the significant role that economic integration plays in the industry as a result of agreements sealed in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

Economic integration offers fresh opportunities for Filipinos to engage with other industry players in the region, and for Philippine industries and products to hit the global stage.

The 3-day event will have various presentations, plenary discussions, and a case competition. Topics and invited speakers include the following:

  • Why Funny is Money – Stanley Chi, comedian, host, author, cartoonist and branding expert. Author of Suplado Tips, Pogi Points, and Men are from QC, Women are from Alabang.
  • Dinosaurs in Retail Stores: Protecting Microbusiness and Small Brands – Valerie Strack-Maravilla, Ilonggo Producers Association, Incorporated; founding member and president, Iloilo Small and Medium Enterprise Development (SMED) Council; SMED Foundation, Incorporated; and chairman and CEO, Abundant Grace Ventures Corporation
