MANILA, Philippines – Some dream of making video games while some simply want to write them. Take that first step and learn how to write for video games with an introductory workshop on “Writing for Games,” happening on Saturday, May 21, from 1 pm to 5 pm at Fully Booked Bonifacio Global City.

Writer’s Block Philippines, an organization dedicated to empowering writers, communicators, and creative entrepreneurs, is collaborating with the creator of Talecraft and President and CEO of Komikasi Games and Entertainment, Inc., Ria Lu, for this specialized workshop.

Ana Santos and Nika Sarthou-Lainez are the founders of Writer’s Block Philippines. The duo both left their respective careers to pursue their passion to become full-time freelance writers and established the organization in 2010.

“We are thrilled to have our first-ever workshop that focuses on writing for video games,” says Santos, a journalist who focuses on women and gender issues. Santos is a regular columnist in Rappler and Working Mom and as the 2014 Persephone Miel Fellow for the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, her work has been published in The Atlantic and The Washington Post.

“Aspiring game writers, game designers, and hobbyists now have a space where they can learn how to write for video games,” says Sarthou-Lainez, a lifestyle writer who was chosen as one of the five Asian representatives for Moleskine’s Modern Nomads in 2012. She is a full-time freelance writer who contributes for various online and print publications.

“Story and characters are what get people thinking about your game way after they’ve finished playing. Good storytelling is very important when it comes to games,” says Lu, who manages the development company responsible for some of the award-winning “Advergames” (advertising-oriented games) in the country.

Registration for this workshop costs P1,800 per person. Participants should be at least 18 years old. For inquiries and reservations, email writersblock.ph@gmail.com or contact +639173979927. Visit www.writersblockphilippines.com for more details. – Rappler.com
