“Jamming with Bach and Friends” at the Classics at the Hill Year 2

BAGUIO, Philippines – Hill Station and the organizers of the 2016 Baguio Summer Music Festival conclude the season of Classics at the Hill Year 2 with “Jamming with Bach and Friends,” featuring award-winning young music artists, clarinet player Andrew Constantino and pianist Gabriel Allan Paguirigan. 

The duo will perform on July 2 in a dinner concert at Hill Station inside Casa Vallejo, Upper Session Road, Baguio. Dinner begins at 6:00 pm and concert at 8:00 pm. Constantino, 17, had his first clarinet lessons at age 9 with his father Ariel. He became a member of his grandfather’s Imus Youth Symphonic Band Inc. ’83 under the baton of Arnold Constantino.  

When he was 10, he appeared as a soloist of his band and performed in many concerts.  At age 12, he auditioned for the Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) and was accepted as a music scholar. He is on his fourth year there under the tutelage of Prof. Ariel Sta. Ana of University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music.

Constantino has participated in the 10th National Summer Music Camp at the Samba-Likhaan Artists’ Community in Quezon City, the 11th National Summer Music Camp held at Subic Freeport and at the 13th and 14th National Summer Music Camp at the National Arts Center in Mt. Makiling.

He became a member of the Philippine Youth Symphonic Band (PYSB) after his first music camp. As a PYSB member, he has performed at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Main Theater, Far Eastern University Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, PhilamLife Auditorium and more. He conducted the PYSB in many gala concerts.

He recently participated and performed at the II Convegno Clarinet Festival at the UST Conservatory of Music. There he took a master class with John Schertel of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. He also attended master classes with Dr. Wendy Mazon, Brian Gnojek, and Marcel Luxen.

Paguirigan, 20, received his formal piano lessons at the age of 8 under Mrs. Hannah Valdez-Sariego at the Awit Institute for the Arts. He passed the auditions for the PHSA where he studied under Prof. Augusto Espino for his first two years and later with Prof. Nita Abrogar-Quinto. He was a consistent academic and artistic awardee and recipient of the Makiling Academic and Research Institute for the Arts (MARIA) Scholarship given by the CCP.      

As a pianist, Philippine Star as a “virtuoso-in- the-making.” He has appeared in numerous concerts and recitals, playing solo works and chamber music in venues such as the CCP, Tanghalang Maria Makiling at National Arts Center, Abelardo Hall Auditorium, PhilamLife Auditorium, Rizal Park Open-Air Auditorium, Paco Park.

He has been the following: third place and Best in Contest Piece in the 2010 Pianto Teachers Guild of the Philippines (PTGP), Beethoven Piano Concerto Competition, first prize in the 2011 NAMCYA, Piano Category B, top prize in the 2013 Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra Young Pianists Competition and second prize in the 2013 PTGP Piano Ensemble Competition.

Paguirigan has taken master classes under Prof. Albert Tiu, Prof. Victor Asuncion, Mrs. Lania Bronola-Dickert, Prof. Abelardo Galang II, Prof. Reynaldo Reyes, Angelo Rondello, Prof.Charisse Baldoria, Marie Vermeulin, Prof. Rolf Dieter Arens, Emilio Peroni, to name some.    

He is a fifth year student at the University of the Philippines finishing his Bachelor of Music, Major in Piano under of Prof. Luci Magalit.
