MANILA, Philippines – Are your kids learning to spell correctly or is this task just being outsourced to “spell-check?”
With all the gadgets at home and in school with predictive spelling capabilities, it’s hard to distinguish which holds true.
To promote excellence in spelling, the organizers of Kiddo-preneur are launching a new initiative this year called The Alphabee Spelling Contest.
Kiddo-preneur and Alphabee founder Maiki Oreta says: “As a mom myself and as a Filipino, I’m passionate about elevating the standards of today’s youth. We’re focusing on spelling in particular because we don’t want it to become something of a lost art in this digital age.”
The Alphabee Spelling Contest, the first of its kind, will take place on October 15 at the Amphitheater of the Greenbelt 5 Mall in Makati. It’s open to all kids aged 8 to 11. Participants aged 8 to 9 will compete in Category 1 and participants ages 10 to 11 will compete in Category 2. The winner of each category will take home a cash prize of P10,000 and a trophy.
All words in the spelling contest will be taken from the Merriam-Webster Dictionary 2016.
To register your child and to know more details, contact kiddopreneur@gmail.com or +63947-996-0546. Deadline of registration is on September 15. – Rappler.com
