Applications for the 2013 Fellowships for the Master of Arts in Journalism are now being accepted.

This year’s submission deadline is Friday, 15 February 2013.

The fellowships are awarded to full-time Asian journalists who have excellent professional and academic record, a commitment to  good journalism and leadership qualities. A grant covers tuition and other expenses for the two-year M. A. Journalism program.

Since 2003, 99 journalists from Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines have received the grants.

Sixteen fellows form Cambodia, China, Nepal, Pakistan and Philippines are currently enrolled for school year 2012-2013.

Designed for working journalists, the M.A. Journalism program is a hybrid distance learning program.  Online class sessions take place via the learning management system Blackboard, and  classroom sessions hare held  at the Ateneo de Manila University’s Loyola campus in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

The curriculum is made up of 12 courses including courses in ethics, and specialized reporting and writing courses such as International
Reporting, Investigative Journalism and Reporting about Religions. The  program’s design allows working journalists and other media  professionals to study at their own pace and time, and in their own homes or workplaces. The international faculty includes experienced journalists and academics from Australia, Canada, U.S., U.K., Germany, the Philippines, India and Malaysia.

ACFJ, a joint project of the German foundation,  Konrad Adenauer Stiftung,  and the Ateneo, was founded in June 2000 to help raise the bar for journalism in Asia by providing training opportunities primarily for working journalists.

Application forms for the fellowships may be downloaded from acfj.ateneo.edu or requested by e-mail at newsroom@admu.edu.ph. ACFJ may also be reached by phone at 632-926-3253 or 632-426-6001 (local 5215), or fax at 632-926-3254.

For admission to the M.A. program, a separate set of application forms are required.  These are also available from ACFJ or from the Ateneo’s Office of Graduate Studies (OGS).
