MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Science High School System (PSHS) released on Christmas eve, December 24, the results of the annual National Competitive Examination (NCE).

The results came out less than 3 months after the exam was conducted last October 12 and a month earlier than the scheduled January 2014 release.

Out of 22,657 applicants who took the exam, only 1,231 passed in the system’s 11 campuses nationwide.

The NCE is a scholastic aptitude test designed to measure Scientific Ability, Quantitative Ability, Abstract Reasoning and Verbal Aptitude of applicants, according to the Department of Science and Technology.

PSHS is a service institute of DOST, offering free scholarships for high school students who will likely take up a Science career after graduation.

PSHS started accepting incoming high school applicants for the exam last July. The exam, originally scheduled September 28, was moved to accommodate processing and communication delays due to unpredictable weather conditions during the month of August.
