Go under cover and give your city hall a grade!
Bantay.Ph, in partnership with Rappler's #BudgetWatch, is looking for volunteers who can monitor government offices in Metro Manila.

MANILA, Philippines – Do as Bantay.ph student volunteers do and monitor the Metro Manila’s busiest local government units (LGUs)! Help us get a glimpse and quantify the quality of service from our city halls – survey the area, ask the clients about their experiences, and finally, give them your grade.

After your visit, you can write a letter of recommendation with your groupmates to help us uncover the true state of public service in the country.

Through this exercise, we aim to create a clearer picture of the situation and see how much of the promises made in the elections are actually translated into public offices’ everyday transactions – How accessible are the services? Does the bureaucracy favor the citizens? Where is transparency and accountability in the priority list of these offices?

The volunteer experience gives us a better understanding of the government and more importantly, helps us realize our role as citizens of a democracy.

In partnership with Rappler’s #BudgetWatch, Bantay.ph is looking for volunteers who can monitor any of the following areas: Makati, Manila, Quezon City, Taguig, and Mandaluyong.

Each volunteer will devote 15 hours of their time divided between 3-5 days from June 23 to July 11, 2014

Volunteers are required to go through the orientation to learn about the survey process and standards as defined by the Anti Red Tape Act.  (READ: 10 right things to expect from government offices)

Volunteers will be divided into groups according to location. The number of days and hours of involvement will depend on the total turn out of volunteers – the more volunteers in a group, the less each individual will do.

Monitoring and fieldwork schedule will be determined based on the availability of each member of the group. Volunteers can register as a group (maximum of 3) to monitor one office.

Orientation date is on Monday, June 23, from 6-9 pm at 3/F Feron Building, 9590 Kamagong cor. Bagtikan Street, Makati City. Those interested to sign up can send their names, mobile numbers and CV to Happy Feraren (info@bantay.ph).

De-briefing and processing of findings will be on July 11. – Rappler.com
