GenTAYO 2014: SELFWE for Change
The contest is looking for selfies of groups, barkadas, and organizations which are running a particular program or project for a particular cause

MANILA, Philippines – Last June 6, 2014, the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) Awards Foundation launched the 12th Search for the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations.

The search aims to recognize youth organizations who exemplified the spirit of People Power through their various programs and projects. In its 11 years, the TAYO Search has been proving that the Filipino youth groups can change lives and can create lasting impact in their communities.

This year, TAYO continues to seek stories of change that will again inspire other Filipino youth groups.

With the desire to increase participation among youth groups, barkadas and organizations, TAYO launches the third Generation TAYO (GenTAYO) contest with the theme “SELFWE for Change” on 16 June 2014.

Yes, the contest is all about taking group selfies. Selfie has been a popular trend in social media.

Youth of today usually take selfies whenever they like and wherever they go. Some do it simply to express their different emotions; some do it to share a story as in the case of Humans of New York; but most do it for fun or for sharing how pretty or good-looking they are. The theme “SELFWE for Change” is thus appropriate to debunk the notion that this generation is a “me- generation” but rather a generation TAYO.

The contest is looking for selfies of groups, barkadas, and organizations which are running a particular program or project for a particular cause.

The selfie should show the members doing something relevant. A description on the caption about the nature of the program or the story behind the picture should also be included.

Entries will be judged using the following criteria: (1.) Creativity and Originality (30%); (2.) Facebook Likes (30%); and, (3.) Content or Story (40%).

At the end of the contest, TAYO will collate all the photos to create a video of appreciation to all the Filipino groups, barkadas, and organizations that are continuously braving the odds of today and proving that they can make a change.

A total of P20,000 is up for grabs.

GenTAYO: SELFWE for Change contest is open to all Filipino groups, barkadas or organizations of all ages.

The submission of entries will run from June 16 to July 15 while the voting period will run from July 16 to August 11. Winners will be announced one to two days after the voting period and will be awarded during the International Youth Day.

GenTAYO 2014 is organized by the TAYO Awards Foundation, Office of Senator Bam Aquino, and the National Youth Commission. Presented by Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines.– Rappler.com
