PUP to release P1.7M to finance 11 researches

This is an official announcement from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. 

The country’s first polytechnic and largest university – ever determined to build a strong culture of research in various disciplines – is set to provide institutional funding for quality researches.

PUP President Emanuel C. De Guzman recently revealed that the University is set to release the sum of P1.7 million to finance 11 proposed researches that have met the standards set by the University Research Evaluation Committee. The research grant will be given in 3 tranches.

The office of Research and Extension Management Director Dr. Racidon P. Bernarte which is under the supervision of Vice President for Research, Extension, Planning and Development and concurrent Executive Vice President Dr. Manuel M. Muhi, said that 3 of the approved research proposals came from the College of Science, 3 from the College of Education, 2 from the College of Communication and 1 each from the College of Arts and Letters, South Cluster I and the PUP branch in Taguig City. 

PUP will allocate P228,852 for the research proposal entitled “Neutralizing Ability of Andrographis Paniculata (Burm. F) Nees (Sinta) Stem and Leaves Methaolic Extract Against Neurotoxicity Induced by Naja Philippinensis Taylor, 1922 (Philippine Cobra) Venom Based on Histological Changes in Zebrafish Danio Rerio (F. Hamilton, 1822) Gill Filaments” through Prof. Carmelita P. Mapanao; P210,092 for “Growth and Yield Performance of  Pleurotus Florida, P. Cystidiosus and P. Sajorcaju on Selected Lignocellulosic Wastes in the Vicinity of PUP Main Campus” through Dr. Lourdes V. Alvarez; P181,500 for “Institutional Quality Assessment of PUP Open University” through Dr. Anna Ruby P. Gapasin;  P179,000 for “Floral Inventory of Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Manila Campus” through Prof. Armin S. Coronado; P169,500 for “Inventory of Property and Supplies Information System” through Prof. Gecilie A. Almiranez; P147,500 for “Career Promotion Opportunities of PUP Doctoral and Masters’ Program Graduates of Graduate School and Open University” through Dr. Rovelina B. Jacolbia; P140,000 for “Developing an English-based Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATs) Handbook for Teachers” through Ms. Sherry Ann C. Medrano; P139,500 for “Surviving the Anthropocene through the Arts” through Prof. Virgilio A. Rivas; P127,500 for “Experiences of Single Mothers in PUP System” through Prof. Lizyl R. Rebusquillo; P104,000 for “Baseline Data on Internal Communication in the University: Basis for Strategic Communication Plan” through Dr. Angelina E. Borican; and P79,500 for “The L2 Reading Attitude of the Freshmen Students of the Open University System of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines” through Dr. Ma. Junithesmer D. Rosales.

The research proposals were evaluated by the committee composed of Vice President for Branches and Campuses Dr. Joseph Mercado; Vice President for Student Services Dr. Herminia E. Manimtim; College of Science Dean Dr. Theresita V. Atienza; Institute for Data and Statistical Analysis Director Dr. Lincoln A. Bautista; Quality Assurance Center Director Dr. Adela Cristeta Jamorabo-Ruiz; Assistant to the VPREPD Prof. Mely R. Luya; and Assistant to the EVP Prof. Marlon M. Lim.

University officials led by President De Guzman and Executive Vice President Muhi recently graced the signing of the memorandum of agreement between the University Administration and the research proponents.
