Ateneo feeding program needs donations
From July to September 2014, ACED will be feeding 20,000 public school students in Valenzuela City, Cainta, Rizal, Quezon City, and Leyte

This is an announcement from the Ateneo Center for Educational Development.

MANILA, Philippines – The Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED), the arm of the Ateneo de Manila University in helping uplift public basic education in the country, is about to launch its feeding programs in its partner public schools for school year 2014-2015.

Although ACED’s work initially focused on improving the academic performance of public schools, the need to pay attention to other relevant factors such as the conditions of the nearby community, health and sanitation, and other factors affecting student performance has stood out as an important priority.

Truly, how can a hungry child learn? And, how can we raise student achievement in our public schools when a significant number of the schoolchildren are malnourished and hungry?

Thus, ACED started feeding 40 malnourished students in 7 public elementary schools in Quezon City in 2009. From July to September this 2014, ACED will be feeding 20,000 students in the following areas: Valenzuela City, Cainta, Rizal, Quezon City, and Leyte.

To run the daily operations in our kitchen sites, ACED relies heavily on our army of parent volunteers whose support and dedication enable us to address hunger in scale. As a simple token of our appreciation, we provide our parent volunteers with coffee and bread each morning. Thus, we would like to rally your support in donating cups or mugs for our highly committed parent volunteers.

Moreover, we appeal to your generosity and request your assistance in providing potholders, cloth rags, kitchen towels, aprons and hairnets. Please bring your donations to the ACED office, located at Room 301, 3/F Faber Hall, Ateneo de Manila University  from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday to Fridays and 8:00 am to 12:00 nn on Saturdays. Your support is truly appreciated.

If you’re interested to participate in other ways, please contact Jiza Jimenez at 426-60001 local 4028 or jjimenez@ateneo.edu. – Rappler.com
