MANILA, Philippnes – The British Council in partnership with the Peace and Equity Foundation (PEF) is happy to announce the call for applications for this year’s I am a Changemaker Social Enterprise Ideation Camp from 19 – 25 October 2014.

The Camp aims to bring together young people from ages 18-30 who would like to explore their creative side while offering a space to exchange, foster thinking and collaboration about groundbreaking social innovation through social enterprise. Ideas generated during the camp that best fit the Changemaker criteria gets seed funding of P 100,000 each for implementation. 

This year, we are looking for Changemakers for Resiliency, Reconstruction, and Recovery. Through this project, the British Council hopes to encourage a special breed of social entrepreneurs – changemakers, who can use social enterprise to create visions for a better, safer, and more secure future.

Camp programme and trainers

The Camp programme includes workshops and training sessions under British experts from the University of Northampton and local experts from Social Enterprise Development Partnerships Inc (SEDPI).

The University of Northampton is the first in the UK and Europe to be awarded the international accolade of ‘Changemaker Campus’ by the Ashoka U, the world’s leading network of social entrepreneurs. This is in recognition recognition of the university’s commitment to social enterprise and the excellence of the opportunities this commitment gives to its students. There are only 24 universities globally that have been awarded the ‘Changemaker’ recognition.

SEDPI is a private organization composed of young and dynamic social entrepreneurs who were previously employed in non-government organizations. SEDPI’s niche is to provide innovative capacity building and management services for microfinance institutions and social enterprises.

Aside from training sessions, camp participants will also get the chance to visit existing social enterprises and hear talks from young people who have put up their own businesses.
