Yoga for a climate-resilient Philippines
Join a series of yoga workshops led by experts Mark and Joanne Darby. All proceeds go towards building a more climate-resilent Philippines

MANILA, Philippines – Whether you are new to yoga or a longtime practitioner, you can certainly benefit from the expert guidance of Mark and Joanne Darby, who will be offering master classes in Manila from November 22 to December 1 at the Romulo Peace Center in Makati.

Both the Darbys studied directly under Pattabhi Jois, the master of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, who granted them the highest level certification. Having not one but two “certified” teachers teaching at the same time and place is an extremely rare event, as fewer than fifty individuals in the world have attained this level of accreditation.

Ashtanga is an ancient practice that slowly builds in difficulty to allow students to safely access their full potential. With a focus on breath, students bring their attention to the flow of postures in moving meditation. For the Darbys, yoga goes far beyond the asana practice (poses on the mat); it is a way of life. After thirty-five years of practice, they have experienced firsthand its transformative power.

In the two-day “Fundamentals” workshop on November 22 to 23, the Darbys will break down some basic poses, with a focus on alignment and breathing. The following weekend will be for more experienced students who have completed at least the Primary Series, and will shed light on inversions, back bending, and poses from the Intermediate Series on November 29  to December 1.

The Darbys will offer individualized instruction on the mornings between the two workshops from November 24 to 28, teaching all levels in traditional “Mysore” style Monday through Friday.

All proceeds generated by the event will be donated to the Carlos P. Romulo Foundation for Peace and Development, for a project dedicated to building a more climate-resilient Philippines.
