MANILA, Philippines – Local carriers announced that their flights to and from Tacloban are cancelled Sunday, January 18 due to runway obstruction:

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) issued on Saturday evening, Jan. 17 a notice to airmen (NOTAM) extending the closure of Daniel Z. Romualdez airport in Tacloban City until 8:59 am on Jan. 18.

CAAP issued another NOTAM  effective 9:00 am on Jan. 18 until 9:00 pm on Jan. 20 restricting the use of the same airport for aircraft that can only land on its usable runway length of 1500 meters.

The latest NOTAM covers aircraft that can land on 1500 meters runway are jets or turbo-propeller planes such as Bombardier Dash 8 and ATR 72-500 that has a seating capacity of 72.

The airport’s runway 18 threshold was displaced by 638 meters due to the accident where a Bombardier GL50 executive aircraft carrying several Cabinet secretaries on their way back to Manila after Pope Francis’ visit in the province was hit by a strong crosswind while taxiing for take off.

Cebu Pacific

Due to Tropical Storm Amang (international name: Mekkalah), the following Cebu Pacific flights have been cancelled:
