MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Stocks breached the 6,800 level, settling at a new high on Wednesday, March 6.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index rose 123.49 points or 1.84% to 6,835.21, breaching the previous record of 6,721.45 set on February 28. Intraday, the PSEi also hit a new peak of 6,842.97 points.  

“Global markets are rallying on positive economic indicators, while locally, initial earnings reports of our listed companies have been generally better than expected,” PSE Chief Operating Officer Roel Refran said in a statement.

The wider all-share index advanced 52.42 points or 1.25% to 4,257.79.

All counters ended in green, led by the property sector, which jumped 2.86%.

Gainers outpaced losers, 117 to 61, while 38 issues were unchanged.
