MANILA, Philippines – The SM group of the country’s richest man, Henry Sy, and global hospitality company Hilton Worldwide (formerly, Hilton Hotels Corp) have inked an agreement for the management of an upcoming luxury hotel in Manila.

In a statement on Thursday, March 7, SM Hotels and Conventions Corporations (SMHCC), a subsidiary of SM Investment Corporation (SMIC), said the two groups agreed that the Sy-led hotel services firm will manage Conrad Manila, the luxury brand of Hilton Worldwide hotels.

The 350-room hotel is scheduled to open in mid-2015 and will be the first Conrad Hotels and Resorts branded property in the Philippines.

Conrad Manila will be located along Manila Bay front as part of the 42-hectare SM Bay City development, where the 4th largest shopping mall in the world, SM Mall of Asia, is located.

“Today’s announcement illustrates our continued commitment to expand our footprint in the Philippines and is a significant milestone for us as it marks the entry of our luxury brand, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, into this dynamic city,” Martin Rinck, president of Asia Pacific, Hilton Worldwide, said in a statement.

“We are very happy to formalize our partnership with Hilton Worldwide as it combines their expertise of a global, award-winning hospitality company with SM’s strong local market expertise,” said Elizabeth Sy, president, SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation.

Sy added that Conrad Manila is part of their strategy to “capitalize on strong demand from both domestic and international business and leisure travellers.”
