MANILA, Philippines – An 11-year-old boy was hurt when the ceiling of a portion of Mall of Asia, one of the world’s biggest shopping centers, was damaged Sunday, September 15.

In a statement on Monday, the SM Group, which owns the shopping mall, said the damage on a portion of the mall’s South Arcade ceiling was “due to rains and strong winds.”

“The damage was minimal but an 11 yr. old boy was slightly injured. Full assistance was given to him by the SM team. The boy is doing fine now,” SM said.

The mall is among the 47 owned and operated by the group of Henry Sy Sr, the country’s richest.

SM Mall of Asia is one of the malls of SM Prime Holdings, the country’s biggest integrated real estate and retail group. The mall opened in 2006 and attracts an average foot traffic of about 200,000 people.

On Sunday, moderate to at times heavy rains poured over Metro Manila and nearby areas.– Rappler.com
