Regardless of the guilt or innocence of the chief justice, it will be business as usual for some business leaders

MANILA, Philippines [UPDATED] – The result of Chief Justice Renato Corona’s impeachment trial will not have an impact on local business or foreign investments, according to businessman Ramon Ang who manages the Philippines’ largest conglomerate, the San Miguel Corp.

“I’ve never come across a foreign investor or a Filipino investor [who said that] if the outcome of the impeachment will be left or right, they will make their decision based on that. No, never,” said Ang at a press conference on Tuesday, May 29, as senator-judges are casting their votes on the Supreme Court magistrate.

The trial may have cost the government more than P5 million but Ang said it won’t cost the government in terms of investments.

“In fact none of the investors or business partners have ever even asked me or talked to me about it for their investments or business ventures. Meaning, it’s not important to them,” shared Ang.

The end is near for the over 4-month-long impeachment trial–the first against the country’s highest ranking official in the judiciary. But for some, like Ang, it’s business as usual. – Rappler.com
