MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has allowed businesses to use their old receipts until August 30 to give them time to print their new receipts from BIR-accredited printers.

BIR comissioner Kim Henares said on Tuesday, June 11, that she signed Revenue Memorandum Order 44-2013 extending the deadline for the use of old receipts.

“They have until August 30 to have a new receipt printed,” she told reporters.

Henares agreed to extend the deadline by a month after some businesses and taxpayers appealed for an extension as well as rising concerns regarding the capacity of printing companies to accomodate the huge demand for printing receipts.

The original deadline for the printing of new receipts was on July 1, in compliance with Revenue Regulation (RR) No. 18-2012.

Henares, however, said the deadline for the application for authority to print and use new receipts remain.

RR No. 18-2012, published on January 3, 2012, mandates taxpayers and businesses to apply for the printing of new receipts on April 30, 60 days before the initial deadline of using the old receipts.

Taxpayers and businesses who failed to comply with the April 30 deadline shall pay a penalty of P1,000.

The agency issued the regulation to stop the increasing occurrence of fake receipts from some businesses.

BIR is also aiming to reform the process of accrediting printers to address complaints against some of the agency’s personnel engaged in the printing businesses who allegedly make it difficult for taxpayers to register and secure authority to print. – Rappler.com
