Corona trial has ‘no impact’ on PH business – survey

MANILA, Philippines – The historic impeachment trial that led to the ousting of former Chief Justice Renato Corona has no impact to small and medium businesses in the Philippines, a survey showed.

The latest Grant Thornton International Business Report (IBR) released on Monday, July 16, showed that an overwhelming 84% of the local business leaders in the survey shrugged off the impact of the Corona trial.

“84% of local business leaders said it has no impact, up from last quarter’s 78%,” said the statement released by audit, tax and advisory services firm Punongbayan & Araullo (P&A), the local affiliate of Grant Thornton that conducted the surveyed the local business leaders for the global report.

“Conducted around the time when Chief Justice Renato Corona’s impeachment trial was winding up, the IBR survey also asked respondents if the tension between the judiciary and executive branches of the government had any impact on their business,” it said.

Major business groups have lauded the results of the Corona trial, which ended after over 5 months on May 29. The groups said due process was followed and stressed the importance of transparency, which will eventually benefit business. – Rappler.com
