Zoren Legaspi faces P4.5-M tax evasion complaint

MANILA, Philippines – Actor Zoren Legaspi owes the government P4.45 million in unpaid taxes, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) said.

The BIR on Thursday, May 8 filed before the Department of Justice (DOJ) a criminal complaint against the actor for willful attempt to evade tax and deliberate failure to supply accurate information in his Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for years 2010 and 2012.

The bureau sued Legaspi after it accessed documents showing the actor’s “true income.” The bureau examined Legaspi’s books of accounts and other accounting records and compared it with his ITRs filed before the BIR.

Investigation showed that the income payments Legaspi received were substantially more than the income he declared in his ITRs for the subject taxable years. (READ: Legaspi to cooperate with BIR)

Legaspi allegedly earned P9.64 million in 2010, underdeclaring his income by 42%.

In 2012, he allegedly earned P6.49 million and not P1.82 million as reflected in his ITR. He underdeclared his income by 256%, the BIR said. 

Legaspi is registered with the BIR as a professional in the entertainment industry. He is married to actress-host Carmina Villaroel. They have two children, twins Mavy and Cassy. – Rappler.com
