MANILA, Philippines – PLDT Incorporated inked another collaboration deal with Japan’s NTT Communications Corporation to strengthen its international coverage with 100 gigabits per second (Gbps) connectivity.

The 100-Gbps connectivity “powered by NTT Communication’s Tier 1 Global IP backbone… will help PLDT improve Internet speed for both individual and enterprise customers,” the Manuel V. Pangilinan-led telco said in a statement.

In 2013 and 2014, NTT Communications deployed the world’s first 100Gbps digital coherent technology on its transpacific submarine cable system PC-1 and Asia Submarine-Cable Express.

The NTT Group has been a strategic partner of PLDT since 2000, with NTT Docomo and NTT Communications owning approximately 20% of PLDT’s outstanding common stock as of end-June 2016.

New Makati data center opened

Last Thursday, July 28, PLDT also opened the doors of its P3-billion data center in Makati City, the country’s largest facility so far, serving nearby organizations, particularly those handling big data such as banks, business process outsourcing (BPO) firms, information technology (IT) companies, and government institutions.

PLDT’s newest data center sits on a nearly two-hectare property in Makati City, with 3,600 rack capacity.
