MANILA, PHilippines – Local government officials from Negros Oriental signed a memorandum of agreement with AboitizPower subsidiary Hedcor for the planned 22-MW Mabinay-Manjuyod Hydropower project.
The Mabinay-Manjuyod hydropower project is Hedcor’s first venture in the Visayas region, AboitizPower said in an April 19 statement.
It will tap the Ilog River for generating 84 million kilowatt hours (kwh) per year. Currently, the company has a 47-megawatt generating capacity for Mindanao.
Negros Oriental provincial governor Roel Degamo, along with Manjuyod Mayor Amor Baldado and barangay leaders in Mabinay and Manjuyod, all signed the agreement with Hedcor.
“I am giving my full support to the building of this hydropower plant of Hedcor in our community because this will bring numerous benefits to the people,” said Baldonado.
Under the agreement, Hedcor would provide covered areas with farm-to-market, education and employment opportunities, health services and generation shares, which will be given once the plant is operational.
“In our 35 years in the business, we have continued to bring inclusive growth to our host communities by helping them to grow through sustainable social development programs,” said Hedcor vice president Boy Jabonillo.
The Aboitiz group remains the biggest power producer in the Philippines based on “installed” capacity of over 3,400 MW, accounting for about 21% of total power sold to the grid.. – Rappler.com
