MANILA, Philippines – A 15-megawatt bunker-fired diesel power plant of DMCI Power Corporation in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro is expected to be commissioned in December.

On Sunday, April 13, DMCI Power president Nestor Dadivas said, “We are targeting commissioning of the power plant in December.”

Last year, DMCI Power, a subsidiary of Consunji-led DMCI Holdings Inc., won the contract for the construction and operation of the power facility, besting 7 other bidders. The contract has a term of 20 years.

The P1-billion power plant will supply the energy requirements of the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative.

In 2013, DMCI Power also won the contract to supply fuel for the diesel power plant of National Power Corporation (Napocor) in El Nido, Palawan.

El Nido is a popular tourist destination in the Philippines, hailed by CNNGo for its beaches, marble cliffs, and limestone formations.

Dadivas said, “DMCI is now supplying one megawatt to El Nido via rental agreement with Napocor for 9 months, boosting Palawan’s primarily industry – tourism.”

He added, “We now provide power 16 hours a day from 2 pm to 6 am when demand is high. It allows resorts to charge higher room rates with aircon availability.” – Rappler.com
