SM to build community theaters in remote areas
The community theater will be branded as Blink Cinema, SM Lifestyle Entertainment says

MANILA, Philippines – SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Incorporated (SMLEI), the lifestyle and entertainment solutions company of property giant SM Prime Holdings, plans to build a chain of community theaters in remote areas in the country.

SMLEI president Edgar Tejerero said the company has identified 44 possible locations for stand-alone community theaters, most of which are in third to fifth class municipalities in provinces such as Masbate, Marinduque, and Samar.

Tejerero said SMLEI could build 3 to 5 community theaters this year.

The community theater, to be called Blink Cinema, will be rolled out through franchising. There are already at least 12 interested parties.

“We are not looking only into building new businesses but also in improving our current brands. That is why our objective in 2016 is to strengthen our structure, renovate our facilities, upgrade our service, and maintain our relevance,” Tejerero said.

“SMLEI’s goal this year is growth – not only for the expansion of the company but for the economy. We want the world to take notice of the Philippines as a diverse and rapidly emergent country,” he added.

Each Blink Cinema branch will have two theaters, with a seating capacity of 100 per theater.

Designed to reach patrons who don’t have easy access to malls, the stand-alone theaters will release films simultaneously airing in Metro Manila branches.

Blink Cinema can also be used as a venue for neighborhood, school, or corporate events.

SMLEI is also set to open 3 new cinemas this year, located at SM City San Jose del Monte in Bulacan, SM Megamall in Mandaluyong, and SM City Trece Martires in Cavite, plus one Director’s Club Cinema inside Conrad Hotel at the Mall of Asia Complex.

SM Cinema will add 5,600 seats to end the year with 150,000 seats.

SMLEI operates major brands such as Mall of Asia Arena, ePLUS, SM Tickets, Blink, Exploreum, SM Skating, and SM Bowling and Leisure Center.

SM Prime Holdings, meanwhile, is expanding further in China– Rappler.com
