City buses extend routes to NAIA terminal 3
Around 55 city buses will ply from Roxas Boulevard to Circulo del Mundo in Pasay City

MANILA, Philippines – Around 55 city buses were allowed by the Philippine government to extend their routes to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminal 3 starting Thursday, July 23, providing more modes of transportation for airport passengers.

This was after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) granted special permits to some city buses to extend the south-end portion of their routes to Circulo del Mundo in Pasay City.

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said in a statement that it has observed that transportation at NAIA terminal 3 is “very limited” given its “distance from the main road.”

“Buses, as well, do not have routes that traverse the area of the said terminal,” MIAA said, adding that the current bus route only passes through NAIA terminals 1 and 2.

To address this, MIAA said it has coordinated with the LTFRB to implement extended bus routes for a certain trial period.

MIAA, however, did not say when the trial period will end.

Under the new scheme, city buses coming from Roxas Boulevard will take NAIA Road, proceed to Domestic Road, and then Andrews Avenue, before arriving at Circulo del Mundo.

From this point, buses will take the same route going back to Roxas Boulevard as they proceed north.

City buses, however, will not enter the arrival or departure area of NAIA terminal 3.

MIAA said there will be a designated bus stop for passenger from NAIA terminal 3 near Circulo del Mundo.

Along the route, a bus stop will also be built along Domestic Road to cater to passengers from NAIA terminal 4. (READ: Remember the Love Bus? Might be time to have it back)

Loading and unloading of passengers, however, will not be allowed along Andrews Avenue.

The fare matrix will remain the same, MIAA said.

“With the extension of bus routes to terminal 3, we expect queues waiting for taxis at the airport to become more manageable,” MIAA general manager Jose Angel Honrado said.

“We thank the LTFRB for readily assisting the MIAA in providing more transportation options for airport passengers. Management is hopeful that this is only the beginning of better services for those making use of public transportation coming from the NAIA,” Honrado added.

The MIAA and the LTFRB will meet again by August to evaluate the new scheme. – Rappler.com
