DOTC likely to rebid LRT-1 extension deal

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) is likely to rebid the contract to extend the Light Rail Transit 1 (LRT-1) to Cavite province after 3 prequalified bidders withdrew and the lone company that submitted a proposal failed to comply with requirements.

In a statement Friday, August 23, the DOTC said its joint special bids and awards committee (SBAC) and the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) will convene and submit a recommendation on how to move the project forward next week.

“An option under the Build-Operate-Transfer Law is to rebid it. In case of a rebidding, a single-stage process is possible in order to meet the project’s original deadlines,” it said.

“Once the SBAC’s recommendation is approved, the DOTC will announce the next steps for the bidding of the project to the public,” it added.

The P60-billion project is the biggest so far under the Aquino administration’s Public-Private Partnership program.

DOTC undersecretary Jose Perpetuo Lotilla has said the groups probably withdrew their parcticipation in the bidding because of financial considerations. – Rappler.com
