LTFRB opens bid for NAIA bus services
The airport bus service will initially have 2 bus routes to and from the 3 NAIA terminals

MANILA, Philippines – Heading to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) may soon get a little more convenient, after the government officially opened the bidding for premium bus airport services Friday, July 3.

The Philippines’ land transportation regulator on Friday issued a memorandum circular, formally inviting interested operators to participate in a legal tender in offering premium bus airport services to conveniently and safely transport airline passengers.

Similar to airport bus services provided in Hong Kong and Singapore, the government initially identified two airport bus routes: the first route is the NAIA – Roxas Boulevard area, including SM Mall of Asia and Entertainment City; while the second is NAIA – Makati Central Business District route.

Each route will have two sub-routes, with one serving NAIA terminals 1 and 2 and the other serving NAIA terminal 3. (READ: Remember the Love Bus? Might be time to have it back)

Each sub-route will have no more than 5 stops, all within the “target zone” to ensure efficient travel times for passengers.

“Many of our overseas and domestic airline travellers have problems going to and from our airports. This is why the LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board) released guidelines regarding the legal tender of airport bus services,” LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez said in Filipino.

Interested operators will have until August 3 to submit their legal, technical, and financial qualification documents.

Opening of the qualification documents is also on August 3, with the notification of the results on August 10.

A pre-qualification conference is scheduled on July 10 for interested operators to raise their concerns.

Vehicles under the airport bus category “should have fixed schedules and off-street stops, low-floor height and adequate luggage space, CCTV cameras, GPS device, free WiFi, and must run on Euro V or clean alternative fuel.”

Drivers of the premium airport bus will be on salary basis.

There will be booking office in off-street stops and airport terminals, LTFRB said.

Suggested fare for the 18-km Makati-NAIA route and 24-km NAIA-Roxas Boulevard route airport bus service is P300 ($6.66).

Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya had said that Green Frog has expressed interest in the airport bus service that would ply 3 areas including Makati City, Mall of Asia, as well as Bonifacio Global City or Ortigas Business Center. – Rappler.com
