'We wish to clarify that these recent announcements apply only to a limited number of individuals, with whom we have already communicated separately,' BPI says in its latest advisory

MANILA, Philippines – The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has clarified that not all of its clients need to update their account information by September 30  to have continued access to automated teller machines (ATMs) as well as online and mobile services.

In its latest advisory on Tuesday, August 30, the bank said the requirement only applies to those who have received official communication from BPI regarding it.

“We wish to clarify that these recent announcements apply only to a limited number of individuals, with whom we have already communicated separately. Should you have any questions, please visit us at the branch where you maintain your account or e-mail us at expressonline@bpi.com.ph,” BPI said.

The Ayala-led bank also issued an apology for the inconvenience the announcements might have caused to its clients.

“We have subsequently received feedback from you and acknowledge that our announcements have raised concerns. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you,” it said.

This is the second clarificatory advisory from BPI since it issued its first advisory on Friday, August 26, regarding the requirement for clients to update their information with the bank.

In an advisory on August 26, BPI told its clients to update their information by August 31 or risk losing their online, mobile, and ATM access.

But at 8:55 pm on Monday, August 29, BPI posted a clarification on its official Facebook page.

The Monday night advisory was meant to ease the mounting anger of BPI clients, especially those based abroad, on the initial August 31 deadline issued just days before. – Chrisee Dela Paz/Rappler.com
