MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) announced Wednesday, July 23, that it has expanded its fiber optic network to some 90,000 kilometers after the launch of its P700 million domestic fiber optic network (DFON) in Bohol.
According to PLDT president and CEO Napoleon Nazareno, the intiative wouldn’t end there, with the PLDT Group continuining to invest in building an extensive fiber optic network in the country.
“We now have nearly 90,000 kilometers of fiber cables throughout the country. And we are building more. This is the infrastructure that the country needs in the digital age,” Nazareno said.
The newly-launched submarine and inland fiber optic network spans 328 kilometers – from Cebu through Bohol to Misamis Oriental.
PLDT’s new fiber facility, which has an initial transmission capacity of up to 40 Gigabits per second (Gbps), is expected to enhance the Bohol provincial government’s efforts to attract more outsourcing companies to establish locations in Bohol. – Rappler.com
