MANILA, Philippines – Budget carrier AirAsia resumed its Manila-Davao route Friday, March 27, with an all-female flight and cabin crew in celebration of Women’s Month.

AirAsia is flying to Davao from Manila thrice daily, apart from its current twice daily flights from Cebu.

The Manila-Davao maiden flight Z2 611 was captained by Giselle Bendong with First Officer Iya Halagueña as co-pilot.

The cabin crew was led by senior flight attendant Blanche Garcia with Anjeline Garchitorena; Jana Trajano; Christine Shane Dinong; Marah Gaa; and Mayumi Arima.

To date, women make up almost 40% of all AirAsia Philippines staff with 7 pilots and co-pilots combined; 253 cabin crew; with the rest in ground services working as technicians, mechanics, ramp officers, and in key operational and support areas.

“At AirAsia, women work shoulder-to-shoulder with their male counterparts from the office of the CEO to key operational and support departments. We are very proud of their achievements and contributions,” said AirAsia Philippines’ Chief Executive Officer Joy Cañeba.

AirAsia also launched Friday its maiden flight to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia from Mactan-Cebu International Airport. Passengers of flight Z2 131 received welcome gifts from the Sabah Tourism Board upon their arrival. 

AirAsia flies to Kota Kinabalu from Cebu every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
