MANILA, Philippines – If you want to hear the actors behind the Wolverine and the Gladiator sing, then it’s time to see the new, international trailer of Les Misérables, posted on YouTube on November 9.

Unlike previous trailers that showcased a singing Anne Hathaway as Fantine, the new trailer also gives us a glimpse of the vocal talents of Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, the ex-con who sought redemption, and Russell Crowe as Javert, the fanatic police inspector who hunted Jean Valjean down only to set him free and commit suicide in the end.

Other actors seen singing in the international trailer are Amanda Seyfried as Cosette, Fantine’s daughter, and Eddie Redmayne as Marius Pontmercy, the idealist who falls in love with Cosette.

Fans have heard Seyfried’s singing voice in the movie adaptation of Mamma Mia! based on the West End/Broadway musical where she starred opposite Meryl Streep.

According to Young Hollywood, the singing for Les Misérables was done live on set, under the helm of director Tom Hooper.

YH writer Katie Marzullo compares the movie with 2004’s Phantom of the Opera directed by Joel Schumacher. It starred Gerard Butler as the Phantom and Emmy Rossum as Christine.

Marzullo writes of the Phantom movie: “It felt like I was still watching the play.”

Les Misérables is set for release in the US on Christmas day December 25.

In the Philippines, it will begin screening January 16, 2013, to give way for the Metro Manila Film Festival that also begins on Christmas day. – Rappler.com
