CEBU CITY, Philippines – “Be part of the Legacy – do the Gangnam Style!”
At least 11,000 college students and university staff danced in Cebu City to the tune of the famous "Gangnam Style" on Friday, December 7. It was part of a bid for a Guinness World Record of having the most number of people simultaneously dancing Gangnam Style.
The Cebu Technological University (CTU) Main Campus Supreme Student Government (SSG) organized the record attempt to unify the campus.
“This is the first in the entire region (Central Visayas). We have gathered everyone (in the university) to be part of history and to leave our legacy,” SSG President Ian Ompad told Rappler.
There are a total of 10,964 students currently enrolled with CTU Main Campus.
Participants came from the colleges of Engineering, Information Technology, Nursing, and Education.
Ompad said it was surprisingly easy for them to invite everyone who was very eager to participate in the historic presentation.
Rehearsals started only last Monday, December 3, despite the devastating effects of Typhoon "Pablo" in the region. Dozens of choreographers from the university dance troupe pitched in to help.
Ompad said they are now preparing the evidence required by Guinness to start the process of evaluation. They will decide whether the bid to set a Guinness record succeeded.
Organizers also dedicated the presentation as a natal day gift to their university president on Saturday, December 8.
Aside from CTU’s version of Psy’s record-holding music video, Cebu City is also known for the dancing inmates of the Cebu Provincial Rehabilitation Center. - Rappler.com
