MANILA, Philippines – Theater hit Miss Saigon will definitely make a comeback in 2014 with producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh at the helm, according to a story posted in BroadwayWorld.com by Oliver Oliveros.

Oliveros cited Mackintosh’s interview with The Philippine Star entertainment editor and columnist Ricky Lo at the Tokyo premiere of the film Les Miserables for which Mackintosh is also a producer.

Mackintosh told Lo that he will restage Miss Saigon as soon as he finds the theater. When asked about the Manila auditions 3 weeks ago, the producer went back to when he first staged the musical, saying he hopes auditions will be faster this time around.

“When we did the show in London 25 years ago, we spent over a year looking for the cast. I hope that in the next 18 months it would be back in London,” Mackintosh told Lo.

“The new version has just opened here in Japan and it’s a phenomenal success. It’s going to be a different production but still the same great Miss Saigon.”

Mackintosh told Lo that he has not viewed the tapes of the Philippine auditions, only because he is currently busy with promoting Les Miz. He said that he will do so as soon as he returns to London.

And what about a Miss Saigon movie?, Lo asked.

“It’s possible. But we have to wait and see how successful Les Miz will be as a film,” Mackintosh replied.
