MANILA, Philippines - Actor and comedian Will Ferrell is a genius, at least according to the people behind MTV.
The television channel announced that Ferrell will receive the first-ever Comedic Genius Award at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards.
"Will Ferrell epitomizes what it means to be a comedic genius and it's only fitting that he should be the inaugural recipient of this award," said MTV president Stephen Friedman in a statement.
"Over the course of his extraordinary, 17-plus-year career, he has entertained audiences across the globe with an impressive array of laugh-out-loud performances on air, online and in films. Simply put, Will Ferrell is 'kind of a big deal.'"
Ferrell first earned his star as cast member of the Saturday Night Live sketch comedy and variety show. He later went on to pursue an acting career starring in a bevy of comedies such as Anchorman and The Campaign.
