MANILA, Philippines – Two movies based on hit comic books set for release this year, “The Wolverine” and “Kick-Ass 2,” have released their trailers to the delight of geeks and movie buffs.

Logan in Japan

Fox released two full-length trailers of “The Wolverine” for its US and international audiences. Both showed the adamantium-clawed mutant in his emotionally vulnerable state following the death of his love interest, Jean Grey, also known as the Phoenix, in “X-Men: The Last Stand.”

In the first couple of minutes of footage, Logan gets an offer to be able to become a mortal by disrupting his mutant healing factor. This pushes his combat skills to the limits as he faces the terrorist vixen Viper, the sword-swinging Silver Samurai, and ninjas on motorcycles across snowy rooftops.

Directed by James Mangold, “The Wolverine” is loosely based on a limited series created by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller in 1982. The movie is set for international release in July.

Move over Justice League, here comes Justice Forever!

Almost a year ago, comic book writer Mark Millar talked to Rappler during his visit in Manila about his plans to move his properties to the big screen. The sequel for the cult hit movie “Kick-Ass” was still in the works then.

On March 28, the trailer of “Kick-Ass 2” debuted, showing Kick-Ass (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Hit-Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) inspiring a new batch of masked heroes which includes the oddball Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey) and his crime-fighting dog.

Together with other members of Justice Forever, the vigilantes face the revenge of a new supervillain, the former Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse).
