MANILA, Philippines – Last June 4, Yahoo! Philippines launched the 3rd Yahoo! OMG! Awards, which honor the country’s most popular and most searched celebrities.

The purple carpet rolls out on July 19 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, where fans can show their support for their favorite celebrities free of charge.

Under the theme, “Stars rock. Fans rule,” the OMG! Awards not only recognize celebrity power but also pay homage to fan support. It prides itself with its dedication to fans by granting them the power to decide who takes home the trophies.

Results are based solely on online and text votes, where the online percentage of votes are immediately visible on the site.

Social media has the power to select favorites among 106 nominees in 22 categories until July 12, a week before the star-studded awards night.

Nominees are based on trending searches on Yahoo!

Various awards such as Actor/Actress of the Year, Best Radio Show, Love Team of the Year, and Best News and Public Affairs Show aim to honor personalities across different media platforms.

Yahoo! will also be awarding fans who have shown true dedication to their favorite celebrities with the Fan Club of the Year award.

A BIG YAHOO! FOR FILIPINOS. 'We're celebrating Filipino talent,' say Kate delos Reyes and Mike Constantino of Yahoo! Philippines

Mike Constantino, Yahoo!’s deputy Country Sales Director, told Rappler that the OMG! Awards are a celebration of the Filipino people’s passion for entertainment.

“We just really want this to be fun and entertaining and inspiring for our users. A lot of Filipinos have different passions and we’re just serving the passion for entertainment. The social aspect of this as you can see is on all on your social networks, so you can tell people and share with them.”

“Also it’s our way of celebrating Filipino talent,” added Kate delos Reyes, Country Manager and Country Editor for Yahoo! Philippines.

“It’s our way of promoting the local entertainment industry and giving a platform for the Filipino audience to support local artists. So if you would notice, all of the nominees are local celebrities. We don’t have foreign celebrities in the OMG! awards, so this is a celebration of Filipino talent.”

A special voting for the Media Magnet award took place during the launch, where members of the press were given the chance to vote for the most talked about celebrity.

The award was given to singer Charice Pempengco, who graciously thanked the crowd for their support.
