Girls night out: Chippendales in Manila

MANILA, Philippines – According to PAGASA, the rainy season has officially begun. But are you ready for it to rain men?

The Chippendales think so.

Pinays get a taste of the “the most wanted men in Vegas” as the Chippendales performs in Cebu on June 11, Manila on June 13 and 14, and Pampanga on June 15.

Armed with their signature bow ties and rock hard abs, entertainers Bryan Cheatham, Matt Marshall, Michael Lattino, Dylan Ruth, Josh Dubois, Vanja Kapetanoviic, Kris Davis and Kevin Cornell are out to make ladies swoon in what they dub “the ultimate girls’ night out.”

Cornell, who has been in the show for 12 years, said the show is “Disneyland for women.”

“There are 8 rides here,” he said at their June 10 press conference, referring to his fellow Chippendale members and himself, who are ready to give the ladies a night to remember.

The men filled their press meeting with light and humorous conversation, sharing stories of eating balut and having strange encounters with fans during their 2011 Philippine visit.

One experience that stood out for them involved an older lady’s dentures which fell out while she was attempting to — quite literally — bite a member’s buttocks.

They admitted that some women do tend to become a little violent — almost scary — at times. But they know that it comes with doing the show. Not everyone can handle the crowd, and that is what determines a true Chippendale member.

Despite certain restrictions due to the conservative nature of Philippine culture, the group promised to stick to their original Las Vegas program as much as possible. While they are aware that Filipinas tend to be reserved and shy, they are confident that the crowd will eagerly participate in the show, as was the case during their first performance two years ago.

Cheatham, the group’s singer and choreographer, expressed his admiration towards Filipino international artist Charice Pempengco. He said he would be thrilled to sing with her in their concert. He then gave the young singer an open invitation to their show.

The Chippendales have earned quite a following through the years, earning them sold-out shows across the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia. Around two million people worldwide come to see their performances each year.

Their show has earned the “Best of Las Vegas Award” as well as a 5-star rating from Las Vegas Weekly. It was also named one of the “Top 10 Girl Getaways” by MSNBC. – Rappler.com
