John Mayer tweets support for Shia LaBeouf

MANILA, Philippines – Singer John Mayer took to Twitter his expression of support for actor Shia LaBeouf, who was recently involved in several incidents resulting to bad publicity.

On February 12, the singer tweeted:

The singer, currently dating pop star Katy Perry, is no stranger to controversy himself. In a previous interview with Playboy, he famously called his sexual encounters with ex-girlfriend Jessica Simpson “napalm, sexual napalm.” He was also called out for comments in the same interview that were perceived to be racist (in the interview, Mayer said, ‘My d*ck is sort of like a white supremacist,’ in reference to his sexual habits).

Tough times for LaBeouf

Early this year, LaBeouf was involved in a plagiarism controversy over his 2012 film directoral debut HowardCantour.com.

Time says it wasn’t until after the film was posted online on December 2013 that people noticed it was almost an exact adaptation Ghost World, a graphic novel. Time also reported that his apology for plagiarizing the graphic novel was copied in the same way he appeared to plagiarize his apology to Alec Baldwin for quitting a Broadway show in 2013.

The same report adds that LaBeouf’s self-published books Let’s F*cking Party and Stale N Mate were also plagiarized. He issued apologies once more lifted from famous celebrities like Tiger Woods, Kanye West, and Mark Zuckerberg.

In the press conference for his the upcoming movie Nymphomaniac, the actor made a scene by walking out only 10 minutes into the event. 

He was asked by reporters about the numerous sex scenes in the movie. He then responded “When the seagulls follow the trawler, it’s because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea. Thank you very much,” before stepping out. The quote is from the film Looking for Eric and was said by French soccer player Eric Cantona.

During the premiere of the movie, he walked the red carpet with a paper bag on his head with words written over it: “I am not famous anymore”

On January 13 and from Janury 21 until February 10, the actor released a daily tweet with the same message:

And on February 12, the actor tweeted “#IAMSORRY,” in reference to his art show of the same name held in Los Angeles in the same week.

In the show, LaBeouf stays silent in a room at an art gallery. At the entrance, participants choose from a variety of items related to his work, such as a transformer (in reference to Shia’s role in Transformers). Viewers then walk into the room with the unspeaking Shia.

Andrew Romano of The Daily Beast said that when he visited the show, the actor’s eyes appeared to be “red and watery,” and that he shook his hand twice but did not speak.
