Fans of this CSI franchise will finally get a peak into the past that haunts Mac Taylor

MAC REMEMBERS YESTERDAY. 'CSI NY' season 8's premiere brings us back to 9/11 where Mac Taylor lost his wife.

MANILA, Philippines – ‘CSI NY’ came back for its 8th season last night with a premiere episode that was nothing short of powerful.

Finally, after 8 years of the CSI franchise, fans got to “meet” Detective Mac Taylor’s (Gary Sinise) wife, Claire (Jamie Ray Newman), who was working in one of the Twin Towers when the planes hit. Her body was never found.

Meant to honor the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the episode also showed Mac choosing the DNA lab over the crime lab, where he pitches in to identify the remains of 9/11 victims. He also sets up a memorial that honours the first responders that were killed — the Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance.

In real life, actor Sinise is actually a recipient of the Presidential Citizen’s Medal for his involvement in several 9/11 charities, and was actually involved in setting up the Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance. His band, Lieutenant Dan, raised money to complete the memorial in 2006.

Like millions of people all over the world, Sinise has openly said that his life was changed by the tragedy in a profound way.

MOMENTS OF LOVE. Claire and Mac share a poignant moment.

“We’re taking all of our characters back to that day,” CSI NY executive producer Pam Veasy says about the episode. “You (will get to) see why Claire loved Mac, and why Mac loved her.”

Different from the typical tough Mac Taylor fans have grown to love, the episode showed a detective joyful and in love. Fans got a glimpse of the Mac who could not bear to get rid of a beach ball his late wife had blown up, simply because “her breath is still in there.” – Rappler.com
