Family members are considering delaying the burial of Dolphy to allow more fans to pay their respects

MANILA, Philippines – The burial of Rodolfo “Dolphy” Quizon Sr, who died Tuesday, July 10, was set for Sunday, July 15, but may be moved to a later date due to the droves of fans that have come to pay their respects.

On Friday, July 13, more supporters came than the day before, with the line of well-wishers extending through the premises and officials having to control the continous flow of people.

The family of Dolphy will meet later today, Friday, to try and finalize plans for the burial.

One of the late comedian’s sons, Epi Quizon, said that delaying the burial is due to their desire to accommodate all the fans who want to pay their final respects to his father.

“We can’t deprive them of paying respects. It’s part of the last rites of my dad. We have to consider that,” he said.

He reminded visitors to wait paitently in line and to avoid shoving one another especially closer to the casket, due to an incident Wednesday, July 12, wherein the coffin almost fell because of some people pushing each other.

Public viewing hours will be extended to 12 hours from 6am to 6pm on Saturday, July 14.

Prolonging the days

Epi Quizon also expressed his wish for a private funeral to give them time to grieve their loss, but he said they have not yet decided completely whether to open it to the public. He said if he were to decide, he would want it to be exclusive to friends and family as it would be the very last time that they would see his father.

Mariquit Quizon, one of Dolphy’s daughters, shared her thoughts as well, saying she wanted to prolong the days until Sunday, the original date of the burial, as it was hard to let go.

The site where Dolphy will be buried is only a short walk from the room where his coffin currently lies, also in Heritage Park.

Eric Quizon, another one of Dolphy’s sons, said the burial could possibly be moved to Tuesday, July 17. – Rappler.com
