WATCH: 8 Things to know about the all-female ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot
Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones are set to star in a hilarious new 'Ghostbusters' with Chris Hemsworth

MANILA, Philippines – The all-female Ghosbusters reboot is upon us and 4 funny ladies are ready to take on the mantle of the beloved original.

Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones are set to star in the 2016 Ghostbusters movie, directed by Paul Feig.

There’s been a lot of excitement and criticism about this new Ghostbusters, what with the all-female cast and comparisons to the original. But Paul Feig and the cast have worked through the negativity and are excited for its release.

Before the movie hits theaters this July 15, here are some Ghostbusters facts to bring you up to speed before you catch it in 2D, 3D, 4D, or IMAX 3D.

The all-female cast has been getting a ton of hate from folks who say they’re ‘ruining’ the series.

But this reboot actually has the support of many from the original cast. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts from the 1984 movie have even met the girls of the upcoming film.

At a press conference in Singapore, Paul addressed the negative reactions that have cropped up since news of the film broke: “This is such a beloved franchise that people are very passionate about it.  And we completely understand that. And especially when you hear somebody’s going to do a reboot of a classic movie, it is a very natural instinct to be nervous about that.  But all we ever ask is just watch the movie and base it on its own merits.”

Remember Meghan from Bridesmaids? Shannon Mullins from The Heat? Susan Cooper from Spy? Yep – all Melissa-Paul collaborations.

Watch out for the nods to the original in the new movie.

In this Ghostbusters reboot, there will be cameos, such as their version of the Ecto-1 and the proton packs, and even Slimer.

Melissa McCarthy likes to do a lot of her own stunts.

Among her stunts is a stage dive at a rock concert, where the 4 ladies are called to get rid of something strange in the neighborhood.

Leslie Jones had to do her own stage dive too, and was nervous about it until Paul Feig did it himself.

“Paul said, ‘I’m not going to let you do something that I wouldn’t do.’ And all of a sudden, in his suit and everything, he dives into the mat. I was like, ‘If this man can do this in his suit, I can do this,'” recounted Leslie in a release.

Co-starring with the ladies is ‘Thor’ star Chris Hemsworth who plays their dim but lovable secretary, Kevin.

Hot, super nice, and hilarious? You bet. According to Melissa, he’s cracked her up so many times.

The scene where he interviews for the secratary position was mostly improvised, shared Melissa.

“At a certain point, the wheels were off the caboose, like had all gone crazy,” she said.

The scene where Kevin scratches his eye through his glasses wasn’t planned either. “The thing with his glasses, we shot the first scene with him and we were getting a lot of reflection on his glasses, you could see the crew and the lights, so I said, we’ll just take the lenses out,” remembered Paul in an interview with Rappler.

“And the more we thought about it, the more we thought it was perfect – the lenses kept getting dirty, so he took them out. That’s a great, practical response, but only if you look at the world from a different angle from everyone else. He’s quite unique,” Chris said in a release about his character.

For ghosts, Paul didn’t want any tennis balls or CGI.

Instead, the cast worked with real actors in full costume who went through hours of prosthetics. It was so realistic that Melissa herself admitted that it was pretty creepy.

The Ghostbusters have a new headquarters.

Instead of a firehouse like in the original, the girls’ headquarters is located on top of an abandoned Chinese restaurant in New York City, complete with Chinese figures, roofs, dragons, and a moon door.

That’s not to say that the girls in the movie didn’t try to get a firehouse – they do explore one in the movie, before deciding it’s too expensive.
